If you’ve followed our steps and run the PowerShell script but still don’t see an Entra ID in your RMM or when running the script manually, there might be a reason for that!
Steps to Getting an Entra ID for Your Device (at Work or at Home)
Entra ID Joined
There are a few ways to get an Entra ID for your device. The first method is to join your device to Entra ID. You can do this during the initial setup of your new computer through the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE). Additionally, you can go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and connect your device to your organization’s Entra tenant.
During these steps, you may also have the option to add your device to Intune, provided you have the appropriate license. For more details, visit Microsoft Support.
Entra Registered (Previously Known as Azure AD Registered)
A registered device is a great way to link your personal device to the Entra tenant. This allows your organization to recognize your device and determine whether your activity is being performed from a trusted or known device. This is especially common for bring your own device (BYOD) or personal computers.
Registering your device is simple. One of the easiest ways is by installing the Microsoft 365 application. During installation, you’ll be prompted to sign in, and you’ll be presented with three options:
- Allow management of this device by your organization – This option registers your device and enrolls it in Intune. However, selecting this may not be advisable unless you want your personal device to be fully managed by your organization.
- Uncheck the Allow Management option and click Next – This will register your device with Entra but will not allow your organization to manage it. The only information provided to your organization will be your device name.
- Click the ‘No, sign into this app only’ button – This option does not register your device with Entra. It only allows you to use Microsoft 365 without identifying your device as known or trusted. If you want SaaS Alerts to recognize your device, this option is not recommended.
